A century of opening our doors

The Hillside Avenue Historic District runs 27 acres between Watchung and Martine, holding some of the finest turn-of-the-century architecture in Union County. We are the neighbors who look after it.

For more than a generation, the Hillside Avenue Historic District Association has opened Plainfield's grand old houses to the public. Our tours take visitors inside Queen Annes, Colonial Revivals, and shingled Victorians along one of New Jersey's most intact nineteenth-century streets, with docents sharing the architecture and stories of each home. Proceeds support preservation, education, and the upkeep of the district.
